IN-form Newcastle trainer Alan Scorse will make a hit-and-run raid on the rich Melbourne Spring carnival today.
Scorse will start his speedster Looking Fur Lang in the Pentax Plate over 1400 metres. The race is restricted to grey gallopers. The astute Scorse spied the race worth $100,000 and, after Looking Fur Lang gapped his rivals in the Wine Country Cup at Cessnock over 1350m last month, sent his sprinter south."I entered the horse for Saturday down here as well but that was purely a precaution," Scorse said yesterday. "If the rain really hit and the track was a bog then there was no sense starting the horse on Thursday."But since getting to Melbourne the weather has been OK and the track looks like being perfect for him tomorrow."So if he gets the money tomorrow that will do him down here."There are not too many opportunities to run purely against other greys for a hundred grand. It is too good a chance to miss up."Scorse said Looking Fur Lang had travelled south without a worry ."He has settled in well and as I say, it is just a matter of striking a real firm track," he said.
