RANDWICK trainer David Payne believes he has odds-on favourite Baci Amore spot on for the group 3 Spring Stakes (1600 metres) at Broadmeadow this afternoon.
The colt has had two runs back from a two-month break, finishing fourth behind Desuetude in the Run To The Rose (1300m) and fifth behind Duporth in the Golden Rose (1400m), both at Rosehill."He has been a bit unlucky in the draws," Payne said."And last start he was held up for a run in the straight and then it took him another 100m after that to really get going."He has done good since then, and I am very happy with him."At this stage the mile is his best distance."Rhyno Chaser is a promising colt, and he is probably the hardest to beat."Rhyno Chaser, which is trained by Kevin Moses, was sent for a spell after finishing fourth behind Samantha Miss in the Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on May 3.He has only had the one run since when, after not beginning well, he made up ground late without threatening when eighth in the Golden Rose.He showed he has gone on since then by winning a 1200m barrier trial at Randwick on September 12, and the step up to 1600m will suit.Gold Coast visitor Tears'n'cheers is another with bright prospects.Prepared by Alan Bailey, the gelding had solid form in Queensland, including an easy win at Eagle Farm before drawing wide and never being on the track last start when seventh, beaten only 21/2 lengths in the Golden Rose.Local hopes will rest with El Cairo, which is trained by Paul Perry, but the colt is rising sharply in grade on his last-start third on the Randwick-Kensington track eight days ago.
